Occupational health experts agree that the most successful safety and wellness programs are those that begin from the top-down.  This is about creating an organizational culture with employee wellness and safety as its centerpiece.  For any such program to stand the best chance of success, it needs to be framed as such.

This is not about saving money on worker’s comp insurance.  If your employees think that is your only motivation for implementing a safety and wellness program, then your program will fail.  They will not buy in.  What an OSH (Occupational Safety and Health) program is at its core is an investment in your employees.  It’s about creating a caring and wellness culture.

OSHA lays out four key elements to a company safety and wellness program.  The first element is management’s commitment to and employee participation in OSH activities.  Managers create the culture of caring and wellness resulting in a safer workplace environment.  This leads to improved employee health and practices on the job that reduce risk of injury.  In closing, the investment is in your employee’s safety and well-being.  The return on this investment comes in the form of a drastic reduction in worker’s comp costs
